1952 - NEWBERRY SPEEDWAYNewberry Speedway opened up as a 1/2 mile oval dirt track in 1952 running Stock Cars and Sportsman's as a part of the Rebel Racing Association. that hosted a one only NASCAR Cup race on the 10th of December 1957.
****************************************************************1957 - NEWBERRY SPEEDWAY 12th October 1957On the 10th of December 1957 Newberry Speedway won the right to hold a one and only NASCAR Grand National Cup race.
That race saw Jack Smith set fast time to take the pole, Fireball Roberts in a 1957 Ford won the event.
The race was concidered a complete failure as only 900 people were on hand to watch the event. This was the smallest crowd to ever attend a NASCAR race.
****************************************************************1960 - NEWBERRY SPEEDWAYAfter the conclusion of the 1960 race season the owners cut the track back to a basic 1/4 mile.
Stock Cars and Late Model Sedans continued to race at the track quite successfully. But as time went on the populatity of the venue faded. The fans had stopped coming, so the owners were left with no choice but to shut the speedway and walk away.
